• Hello! I’m Robbie. I'm a designer originally from Ireland working mainly in the UK and throughout Europe.

After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, I spent my early career designing fringe and small scale productions, working as an associate lighting designer on larger projects, and as a technician with companies including Cirque Du Soleil and Disney.

Over time, my portfolio developed and I’ve since been fortunate enough to design projects with companies including Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, The Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, The English Theatre in Frankfurt, Bristol Old Vic, Theatre by the Lake, Nottingham Playhouse, The Marlowe Theatre, and Greek National Opera.

I am always interested in collaborating on exciting and engaging new productions in circus, theatre, music and opera.

  • I was the winner of the 2024 Profile Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera; the 2015 ETC Award from the ALPD; and the 2022 Off West End Award for Best Lighting Design. I also have received two further Offie nominations for Best Lighting Design.

  • I am one of only a handful of people to have been made a life member of the Association for Lighting Production and Design and have previously sat as the chair of Equity’s Directors and Designers Committee.

In 2018, I was a leading figure in the #SaveStageLighting campaign: an international drive which sought to safeguard the accessibility to the lighting instruments and equipment that are most commonly used in theatres across Europe from proposed changes to EU law.

I am a member of Ecologi and help to fund carbon avoidance and reforestation projects around the world. I plant 16 trees every month and avoid 18 Tonnes of CO2 emissions every year. Sign up at ecologi.com.
